Capt. H. J. Thomson of the Canadian army was indicted by the federal grand jury on charges of recruiting men for a foreign army within U S borders. He faces imprisonment up to three years and a fine up to $1000, or both, if convicted. The indictment followed the ar.
The Star promotes Kd Cooper Megrue's six installment story Under Cover starting Monday amid a note on a prior Thomsen case. Government agents claimed dictaphone chats between Thomsen and J D Gould spark concern about crossing lines to join regimental bands in the American Legion. Robert Wolf, alleged Thomsen aide, was not indicted.
Friday was the hottest day of the year with a forecast high of 86 as Salis bury noted. At noon the temperature stood at 74 and continued rising, while Puget Sound country remained cooler with 99 in Spokane 94 in Walla Walla and 90 in Portland.
