Miss Minnie Gay, 20, daughter of Mrs. J. C. Lang, killed herself with carbolic acid after jealousy over Elmer Smith, a Tacoma baseball player. Smith, a veteran with New York and several Major League clubs, was unaware of her feelings and did not propose marriage.
Convicts Merrill and another escapee from Oregon have crossed the Columbia River and are pursued by Clarke County deputies. They are headed toward the Bald mountains and Mt Saint Helens area, with residents warned as authorities seek assistance from Vancouver barracks. Oregon trackers and state militia are discussed as the chase continues northeast toward Yakima country.
At the council meeting tonight the police license and revenue committee will report on several matters led by Councilman H C Gill's gambling resolution. A minority report may be presented if the report is approved. The panel will also rule on hawker licensing and hear residents regarding the concrete pavement plan in the Sixth ward along with proposed water mains and sidewalks on multiple streets.

In Curacao June 16 reports say La Guayra the port near Caracas was attacked by Venezuelan revolutionaries. Government forces bombarded Maiquetia and repulsed the attackers with casualties including several women. Panic grips Caracas as crisis deepens.
City authorities in Ballard crackdown on a nuisance tied to the merry-go-round. City Marshal Hunt arrested 13 boys loitering near the ride and escorted several girls home while enforcing curfew. The venue holds a city license set to expire soon and the council will likely decide on renewal.
The Interior secretary sent a letter to the House regarding map printing and a House report. The pending bill includes official maps of Washington and Alaska.
Sheriff Cudihee will bring Paul Underwood to Seattle in custody after his capture near Tokeland. The deputies fled toward the city after the exchange. whereabouts of the assailants remain unknown. In Alabama, the United Mine Workers held a delegate convention in BES EMER to discuss the anthracite situation and possible strike, with leaders signaling readiness to support action if demands fail.
City ordinance prep by City Attorney De Bruler proposes new inspector of police and abolition of the detective bureau. Chief of police salary set at 150 dollars monthly with a senior captain as inspector at 120. Detectives to be drawn from patrolmen up to ten, with 90 dollars monthly.
