A prolonged engagement between American and Filipino forces ends with the latter yielding after a day of hard fighting. The article notes repeated aggressive movements before the final capitulation.
Reports from Mantla and Mantua on June 13 describe a fierce daylong battle at Las Pinas with Lawton's 39 regiments clashing with entrenched rebels. In Mantua General Luna was killed by order, shocking Filipinos and hardening resistance to pacification efforts. The Washington dispatch notes a Zapote river crossing engagement with heavy casualties and rebel retreat. Paris reports Barton Christiana’s four year term for striking President Loubet.
E. K. Johnson, wanted in Tacoma for forgery, was arrested on Washington Street at 6 45 p m by Officers Barbee and Adams after police traced his whereabouts for weeks. Accomplice M C Burgh was also captured and confessed to multiple forgeries. Johnson allegedly directed the crimes and Burgh cashed the checks. A forged EK W Clark Tacoma feed merchant name on a $20 check was cashed at Rackett s Grocery. Johnson had prior liquor related poisoning conviction. He will be tried in Tacoma.
James Maybee a prominent Bothell youth chose death over surgery after a shingle mill injury. He fired a revolver in his room at about 5:30 this morning and died instantly. Coroner Sparling was summoned as relatives arrived to arrange funeral.

Paris reports Premier Charles Dupuy and his cabinet resignations accepted by President Loubet who asks ministers to stay on until successors are named. The Dreyfus affair looms as the underlying cause noted in dispatches from June 18.
The Seattle Red Cross Society met in the City Library workmen’s parlors at 10:20 a.m. Reports showed year receipts of 2260.50 and disbursements of 2044.10 leaving 216.40 on hand. The quorum was reduced to nine. A $10 benevolence was voted for a paralyzed soldier at Whatcom. Officers elected: President Mrs J C Haines and a slate of vice presidents secretaries and treasurer with an executive committee including Mrs J R K Hayden and Mrs M Gottstein among others.
John F. Rockefeller of the Standard Oil trust visited Everett yesterday for a conference with President Hill. They returned to Seattle together and Rockefeller proceeded to Tacoma. Another conference with Hill was anticipated but details were unavailable.
FE C Hawkins, general manager, says completion will lag and the Fourth of July excursion is canceled. He reports 900 to 1000 men at work toward Bennett with tracks to be laid by mid July and grading through to Bennett by end of June. Surveyors continue from Fort Selkirk as progress remains uncertain.
A telegram from a company agent at Caramanta Point, A. C., confirmed the overdue steamer Port Albert had sighted the cape and was en route to Seattle. The British American Steamship Co planned revised estimates, predicting arrival in Seattle by evening after a twelve to thirteen hour journey from Cape Plattery.
Captain J. P. ONeill arrives from Portland to examine 16 recruits awaiting physicals at Beattie Station. Eight men were examined and sent to Manila on June 6, with another eight awaiting oath and enlistment. Recruits will travel to San Francisco then Manila as orders loom. The Pioneer building quarters have been readied for duty.
A cyclone near New Richmond Wisconsin destroyed the town leaving many dead and missing. Fire followed the storm and heavy rain worsened the devastation. A hotel keeper and family were among those affected as rescuers head to the scene.
A large gathering at Mrs. Reeves home in Tacoma awaited Gen Chae H. King for a Washington volunteers reception and lecture. King fell ill yesterday and could not appear, postponing tomorrow evening's event and related plans until his recovery. 참석자 Cushman A. Rice and J. J. Reports from June 4 near the White Pass summit describe three railway workers clearing debris on a cliff. A large mass of frozen rock shifted, tumbling down and trapping Urick under it and breaking his heel. Steele and Bleek were injured with fewer scratches while Anderson escaped with minor injuries. Urick died at local hospital.
Hattie Kinsman a 17 year old girl from South Seattle is missing and believed to have eloped. She left Friday to seek work in Seattle, reportedly traveled to Victoria that night with a young man. Her father A B Kineaman seeks information at police headquarters. She is 5 feet tall with a slender build dark complexion brown eyes and hair.
