Cigarmakers decry saloon move to east cigars

A Seattle cigarmakers union meeting vows to oppose saloon plans to shift purchases to eastern cigars. Delegates say local production supplies under 80 percent, while union leaders claim only 30 percent is locally sourced and warn the move would harm local makers and workers. They pledge to boycott unfair beer and defend union made cigars amid tensions with the Retail Liquor Dealers association and figures like Summit Saloon proprietor John B Brill and Seattle Brewing and Malting Co. manager Bweeney.

Anti-Loon Protest Over Saloons Along Avenues to Pine Street

Residents along Second and Third avenues plan a strong protest against extending saloon boundaries to Pine Street. The Anti-Baloon League vows to oppose any extension, warning it sets a risky precedent and would place a saloon opposite a bar in a residential area. The committee may seek a compromise by extending only along Third Avenue, while council members largely oppose the change.
