He favors close trimming and proper spraying to kill the cottony cushion scale on Madison street poplars instead of cutting them. Miss Fillda Bechdolt daughter of Dr A Bechdolt of the University of Washington and Mr Fran Smith of Tacoma were married at the bride’s home 712 Belleview avenue north in a quiet ceremony conducted by Rev D Simonds. Only intimate friends attended. The couple will reside in Tacoma where Mr Smith is in business.

FP Wallace and Joe Devers were arrested for selling liquor on the beach at West Seattle. They pleaded guilty before Judge and were fined $25. Mrs Jane Scene, arrested on the same charge, pleaded not guilty and will be tried tomorrow afternoon.
In Atlanta on June 11, Miss Yessie Jackson adopted daughter of dairyman BR Flower was found with her throat cut near her home at Poplar Springs. A black boy employed by Flower is in custody on suspicion of the crime. The community is deeply stirred by the brutal killing.
In Cincinnati on June 1 a consortium of piano manufacturers is forming to reduce selling expenses. The group aims to cut the current $75 per piano selling cost by consolidating output and control of distribution.
June 11 Poston witnesses the opening of the Jubilee convention of the Young Men's Christian Association with over 2000 delegates from North America and parts of Europe gathering to celebrate the organization’s fiftieth anniversary in America.

M Moore was removed from the post of executive commissioner for the Pan-American Exposition. Elmer EB Johnson of Everett was appointed to fill the vacancy. The commission, led by Levi Ankeny, met at a Seattle hotel and planned to notify Moore by telegraph. Assistant Secretary Jones of the bureau of information was in Olympia handling Moore’s interests.

The rivers and harbors committee arrived in Colton and was greeted by Ex-Gov Markham Weslow Pew Mc Lachlan and Senator Bard plus a chamber of commerce reception committee. They will visit San Diego harbor on Wednesday and be banqueted here that night. They plan trips to San Pedro and Port Los Angeles on Thursday and start north on Saturday. Former Oberlin students will confront Congressman Burton at Long Beach on Thursday.
Torpedo boat Goldsborough returned from a bay cruise and toiled for its final trial trip today. A large crowd gathered as Shawin tied at Star Wharf with work ongoing and expected to depart before six.

The steamer Victorian sails for Skagway on Wednesday carrying M Kjellslberg, a Nome district discoverer, and his young bride fresh from Europe. In Nome they will join partners John Brynteéson and BE Lindblom, who depart San Francisco soon on the St. Paul.
Charles Lavoleir, a known Tenderloin figure, was arrested by Officers Hubbard and Freeman after being caught in the act stealing Japanese cote from a room at the Central lodging house on Main Street. Two watches and other stolen articles were found during a search at headquarters.
