Public Office Jobs Drive for 10000 Met
More than 16 000 men and women were found eligible for work by the city employment office during April and May, per J H Shields superintendent. Large orders for logging camps and lumber mills formed much of the placements with many men sent as laborers to Alaska on advanced fare. Supply roughly matches demand and few cases of enforced idleness are reported. The piece also notes political maneuvering in employment debates.

Soldier’s Return Sparks Talk at Meier Luncheon
Capt. Nelson T. Hartson, assistant to Corporation Counsel Walter F. Meier, addressed the Young Men’s Republican club at Meves’ cafe on the soldier’s view of civilian life after service. Hartson said the ex-soldier, not naturally partisan, is open to conviction and could win the confidence of the generation that fought the nation’s battles. He is proud of the “flying.”
