Campaign rhetoric warns adoption of the Hinky Dink charter on June 30 would let Seattle Electric Co. gain easy control, strip voters of veto power, and reduce city government to autocratic influence, with council districts limiting citizen oversight and the mayor effectively powerless.
Miss Georgia Jay won twenty thousand dollars in damages from Homer Rodeheaver in a breach of promise case. The jury deliberated about 3 hours 40 minutes after she sought fifty thousand dollars with backing from her mother Mrs Laura Jay. Rodeheaver cited career concerns as blocking marriage. Next steps planned for a new trial arguments.
Friends fear prominent Ballard lumberman Nathan H. Jacoby is dead after he disappeared several days ago. A letter to his wife yesterday said he planned to take his own life. He had been asked to resign from his job at Stimson Mill Co after an East business trip prompted an accounts inquiry.
San Francisco June 6. Attorney George E. Price, representing Capt Jos H Griffiths army paymaster accused of embezzling 8000 dollars, will argue Monday that business worries caused a mental breakdown, explaining Griffiths act to the court martial at the Presidio. No session was held today.
Grace Bailey alias Blanche Williame, 517 Seneca at., is in city hospital with scalp wounds and body bruises after a late night joy ride ended in a wreck near Pries t and Melrose at 1 20. A. H. Sager, not a registered chauffeur, driving under a license number to George W. Ward, said the car skid after a track caused it to hit a light pole and be demolished. Harrison and Ed Holliway of Hotel Stevens escaped uninjured.

Angered after the Seattle, Renton & Southern 25 percent 26 year gold brick proposal was rejected by the council finance committee, receiver Scott Calhoun warned the city would be unable to advance Rainier valley for years. He later said he did not intend to threaten to stall development unless the city damages the company's property, and the corporation counsel judged the threats unlikely to succeed.
Los Angeles reports Mrs. Reatha Watson Lytelle Converse has returned to her father's home. She says she knew nothing of her husband Lawrence Converse's private life and she will not aid any prosecution the legal wife may pursue.
Presiding Judge Frater assigns Judge Humphries to hold vacation court during the week of August 24. Other superior bench judges will fill in from July 6 until fall sessions reopen. Judge Humphries says he is stuck for the hot week, but it is all the same to him.

F M Smith, known as the borax king, has disposed of all his California borax holdings to a London syndicate for 4 million dollars. The sale closes a major chapter in California mining interests and transfers ownership to international investors.
Nurse Frances Ashton testified in Mme Schumann-Heink divorce suit that William Rapp Jr and Mrs Katherine Dean walked about the Dean apartment in bathrobe and wrapper, kissing and caressing, then remained in the parlor all night. Declarations used charming terms like sweet clover and aroma. Lillian Schmidt also testified Rapp and Mrs Dean kissed, with Rapp performing household tasks for Dean.
Col. Theodore Roosevelt with Mia Longworth and Philip Roosevelt arrived in Paris and were greeted by Secretary Bliss. They will depart for Madrid to attend the wedding of Col Roosevelt's son Kermit to Belle Willard.
