Twenty four years ago flames swept Seattle's business core, destroying 40 blocks and ash filled streets. The disaster left 40,000 residents and a total loss of 3.6 million dollars. Yet the next day a new city rose from the ruin with rapid development and broader growth.
Everett, June 6. Members of the I. W. W. have tied up lumber camps near the city to demand sanitary bunk houses spring mattresses clean bedding towels soap baths and dry rooms. They seek an eight hour day and wages of 3 in the field 2.50 in the mills. The strike’s strength is unclear with 200 to 300 men out so far.
Chicago reports Mrs. Geo Penrose visiting her husband jailed for the shooting of J D Van Keuren after he was found in the Van Keuren home. Mrs Van Keuren claimed she shot her husband thinking him a burglar. Mrs Penrose asserts their relationship was proper.
New York June 6 Mrs Racie Freeman wife of Dudley Freeman won a decree of divorce in six minutes before Supreme Court Justice Newburger after hearing the evidence of one of the $8 charges against Freeman. A Jersey cow owned by Rev. W. J. Gardner in Cottage Grove Oregon produced about 1 574 pounds of milk in the last month with a daily average near 50 pounds officials say the high yield may set a regional record.

W. B. Peachy, assistant cashier of the Seattle National Bank, has departed for Weiser Idaho to attend the Idaho State Bankers convention. A banquet will be given in honor of Dr. Richard Burton at the Washington hotel in June with Minnesota men and women cordially invited.
