Antis lining up to block ratification as Senate passes the woman suffrage resolution. They warn the amendment requires 36 states to become part of the Constitution and suggest a Southern and New England bloc could delay nationwide suffrage by federal action. Watson leads efforts for a late vote.
Senator Hiram Johnson plans amendments to the League covenant to bar foreign involvement in California alien land and immigrant laws and school legislation. He argues the league should not settle purely domestic questions and cites article Eleven and Twelve on international matters and arbitration.
United States authorities report three anarchists jailed after police raids in Chicago. J Barry, chief of the department of justice, said he expected further arrests as investigation continues. Police say the group planned to destroy the government within six months and an automobile explosion in the northwest may have involved their explosives.
RG Pennsylvania June 4 authorities say the man who built bombs that wrecked six rooms may be arrested within the next 724 hours. A confession naming the anarchist is said to have been wrung from John Johnson, alleged J. W. W. organizer, who was arrested after a gun battle. Sixteen other suspects are detained as Philadelphia police search for the anarchist who may be connected to the Washington killing.

The fate of James Bruce on a criminal anarchy charge will be decided by a jury before night. Deputy Prosecutor Carmody argued the I W W doctrine advocates overthrow by violence, while defense counsel contended sabotage was misrepresented. Judge French instructed the jury on the proper standard, with a verdict expected from the panel.
In Spokane on June 4 a gas explosion seriously burned Humane Officer Fred Eder and killed three cats. Static electricity from a cat’s fur sparked the blast when Eder lifted a cover to place the animal in a gas filled asphyxiating box.
