OAL Carriers Defy Government in Coal Industry Inquiry
Washington May 30 Western control over coal mining and prices is detailed in an interstate commission report. The testimony links Union Pacific subsidiaries and rail lines to price fixing and suppression of competition, with routes through Denver Rio Grande and Pacific Coast firms. The report alleges fraud and coercive tactics to control coal lands and gas production, noting deceptive declarations used to seize coal lands near Rock Springs and Horse Thief Canyon. It also recounts Navy Admiral Crowninshield’s obituary details and career highlights.
