Residents react to unexpected figures for the proposed second River Water main. Engineers placed preliminary costs between 1 million and 1.5 million dollars, leaving committee members unprepared for the price and the scope of the improvement.
A report outlines plans for new reservoirs with 100 000 000 and 60 000 000 gallon capacities, extra service mains, and a salt water main system deemed unnecessary for fire protection. Costs cited include 490 000 for the large reservoir and 200 000 for the northern reservoir, with existing 50 000 000 gallon storage near Woodland park.
Councilman Crichton announced plans to introduce a resolution for preparing plans and estimates for a sewer system serving Queen Anne hill north of Lake Union and extending to the university. An initial estimate places the north and east portions at about $600,000 with full area coverage reaching $1,500,000.
The Seattle Commercial club relocates today to the Crown building at James 1st and Seconday, taking the entire second and third floors under a three year lease except for two rooms. The publicity bureau will be inaugurated on the second floor.
Inspector Ales Anderson reports a May gain of 50 percent in grain receipts. A total of 620 cars were inspected during the month.
