The Hague July 29 The peace conference closed with 14 signers for arbitration and 16 to 17 withholding from signing the arbitration protocol. Mr Destaal president of the conference delivered a closing speech detailing the results and the key arbitration article.
Chief of Police Reed orders all saloon doors closed from midnight Saturday to midnight Sunday. Miners barred, saloon keepers liable for liquor sales to them. officers to arrest violators after first notifying the licensee.
An early morning thunderstorm struck the city with blinding lightning and heavy rain, awakening residents for hours. Telegraph lines and a Sunset company facility suffered damage, while the Weather Bureau notes the storm extended along Puget Sound toward Portland and Walla Walla. A major storm swept Arkansas County causing extensive damage to cotton and corn crops. An estimated 16,066 acres were submerged as Plat Fork creek breached its banks since midnight causing widespread flooding through the county.
