In Rose, July 2, jurors in the Haywood case heard lengthy judge directed instructions. The trial focused on whether a conspiracy existed and if any party killed Steunenberg. Judge Wood warned the jury to distrust accomplice testimony and consider only corroborated evidence.
New Seattle era notes a graft-unclear reshuffle as Mayor Taylor appoints a new Lake Washington board of supervisors including A D Ancona and J P Booth amid a drowning incident. D C Shriver, Puget Sound National Bank bookkeeper, drowned after canoeing with Miss Effie Metsger near Denny Blaine wharf.
The United States on July 27 requested Salvador to explain the imprisonment of two American citizens detained on charges of involvement in a revolution.
A Buffalo Rochester Pittsburg excursion train carrying 500 workers was ditched at Isie Station on the Allegheny and Western line. Fatalities include Firgin M Hates, Charles Neal and Ralph Dawson with several seriously injured. Sasaki and four others were charged with bringing five Japanese into the United States from Victoria British Columbia on July 15. The ordinance, backed by Councilman T. P. and State Sen Cotterill, sets 300 feet of market space and structures on level ground with no rental charges. The engineer's estimate places the project cost at $72,000 pending council approval.
A planned cement sidewalk job in Councilman Murphy's district is set to cost about $75,000. The district includes Meridian Burke Densmore and Wood.

A car driven by 22 year old chauffeur Clyde Rowan collided with a buggy at 11 o clock on Oregon Street Beattie Seattle injuring four occupants of the buggy and killing M a Long about 50 of Yakima Avenue. Witness Peter Gregorson rescued the victims and moved Long before a streetcar struck the wreck. Coroner’s Inquest Monday will determine if the auto strike caused Long’s death. Rowan is detained by police. Mrs Masters and others are in custody of the matron as witnesses.
The six story Bailey building at Second Ave and Cherry Street in Seattle was sold today by Halley Investment Company for 856 000. Built in 1890 by Edward Halley it changed hands several times and yields a 175 000 profit.
In San Francisco the jury in Louis Glass's bribery trial requested rereading testimony and further instructions after a stormy overnight session. The panel, 9 to 3 for acquittal at dawn, resumes deliberations as jurors weigh circumstantial and direct evidence of a $5,000 bribe to Supervisor Charlies Boxton.
United Press reports the battleship Bellerophon was launched at Portsmouth. At 18 500 tons it is larger than the Dreadnought at 15 900 tons. Princess Henry of Nettenberg christened the ship, hailed as the world’s largest and most powerful.
