An unknown steamer crashed into the freighter Rapid Transit at Deception Pass around 1 am. The stem was splintered but no other major damage occurred. Captain G Nelson reports heavy night glare and a lone head light visible. steamer fled after the near collision. Inland Navigation seeks the other vessel’s name.
Cal July 24 Two lives were lost in a hotel fire at Pister Clovie when Mrs Nester Freitas and her infant perished after being unable to escape a blaze started by an overturned lamp. The two story hotel sustained about 15000 in damages. The child's body was recovered this morning.
New Englanders in Seattle form a state or society to foster regional ties and aid advertising for Seattle and the Alaska-Yukon-Pacific exposition. Moncriffe Cameron of Boston elected temporary chairman with Henry Noon as secretary. Committees were appointed to draft by-laws. second meeting set for July 30 at 8 p.m.
