S S Columbia sinks after fog collision. 140 plus dead

Reports from San Francisco scene recount the Columbia disaster off Shelter Cove. One hundred to two hundred forty seven aboard with eighty eight survivors. Captain Doran stayed aboard as lifeboats and rafts failed under baying surf. The Roanoke and Geo. W. rescued survivors. W. Elder evacuated remaining survivors to Eureka.

Beattie Runs on Sandbar Repairs After Coastal Run

The steamship City of Seattle ran aground on a sandbar during a voyage from Southeastern Alaska. The vessel was beached and sent to Moran Company drydock for repairs after the incident.

Boy 18 Injured in Luna Park Slide Accident

Joe Biegert, 18, attempted a standing slide in Luna Park natatorium yesterday and struck the back of his head on the boards. He was pulled from the water unconscious and taken to Beatle General Hospital where he remained unconscious at a late hour. He is the son of John Biegert of 3808 Eastern Ave Latona and sister Hannah Biegert recently graduated from the state university.

Injury on Ravenna Park Bridge Leaves Cook Hospitalized

T Ogata a Japanese cook in a contractor camp was struck by a car on the Ravenna park bridge last night and badly injured. He was taken to Wayside hospital where x rays showed several ribs broken and his condition was described as serious but improving today.

Washington reports an attempted Cuban uprising planned in Oriente and aimed at the palace. Secret service agents uncovered the conspiracy and warned authorities. Army forces had been distributed and the uprising was scheduled for the latter part of the month.

A 18 year old woman Miss Roma McConville was attacked and beaten near Third avenue and Vine street by a ruffian who fled as a crowd hunted him. The North German Lloyd steamer Kaiser Wilhelm II listed while coaling at Bremerhaven and sank, with water flooding bunkers and boiler rooms but not cabins. Pumps worked to remove water. she is to be floated at the next high tide with minimal damage. Launched five years ago, she measured 684.6 feet long, 72.3 feet beam, and 40.2 feet depth of hold.

F A Rogers a fire department member says his wife was insulted by Ike Miller on Union street Saturday night. He waited and pummeled Miller injuring him severely requiring medical treatment. Miller could not recount his story and was turned over to a doctor. He filed no charges.
