Local Market Prices Hit Fresh Potatoes From Kennewick

Local markets received first new potatoes of the season from Kennewick on Tuesday, selling at 4% cents per pound. Soft fruits remain strong but slightly lower than initial quotes, with carload fruit shipments from eastern Washington moving nationwide. Seattle receives only fruit that cannot endure long railroad journeys, yet prices stay competitive with national markets. The local market faces a growing surplus of cheap grade produce that traders refuse to move at half price, hindering butter movements. New California and other regional entries appear in mixed quotes for vegetables and fruits, including cabbage, cauliflower, tomatoes, radishes, rhubarb, and potatoes priced by ton or per dozen.
