Death Hunted German Spies Endangering Transports

United Press reports a nationwide hunt for German spies with harsh penalties for proven traitors. The piece notes potential creation of a central intelligence or secret service, possible curbing of German owned insurance firms, and renewed censorship efforts as Wilson officials seek to block leaks and coordinate counter espionage. It mentions cabinet deliberations, Admiral Sims, and measures to prevent neutral reports aiding the Kaiser.

Plan for Belgian Mission Entertained in Seattle

The Belgian mission in Seattle gains an entertainment plan approved by wire from Hugh Gibson. A public noon meeting at the Arena and a Monday evening dinner at the Masonite auditorium cost $1 per plate and offer many Seattle residents chances to hear the visitors. Tickets are sold at banks, stores, and the Chamber of Commerce office. Belgian consul Hertems says the dinner suits residents to meet the commissioners. The diplomats will stay with Samuel Hill and be hosted at his 1909 residence built for the count of Flanders then King Albert. They will meet Mayor Gill and A. J. Rhodes Sunday morning. Many businesses plan to fly the Belgian colors along the visitors’ boulevard route.
