Immense Outlay Planned for Alaska Central Railway

Frank Brown, purchasing agent for the Alaska Central Railroad, says $2,000,000 will be spent on construction before January with total road and terminal costs reaching at least $15,000,000 over five years. The project, based in this city, has already used $300,900 since March, mostly in Seattle, while supplies arrive by rail and sea for 60 miles of track plus 20 miles already laid. The plan includes pushing 400 more miles toward Fairbanks, with 1,000 workers in Seward and 600 more to come, wages from $2.75 daily plus $6 weekly board.
