A runaway mine car on a Pennsylvania railroad branch at Altoona plunged down a three mile grade shortly before midnight killing eleven miners and injuring many as workers walked from Port to Puritan. Authorities attributed the disaster to a malicious release by strike sympathisers.
City council urged to repeal the right of way grant through the Cedar river watershed to block a railroad plan. Counsel argues delaying repeal benefits the railroad and could empower a vested right once an injunction lifts, risking water purity and public control.
A university professors club named the University Dating Club was organized with Henry Londes as president. The group was incorporated with a capital of five thousand dollars.
George McAdams, resident of Nineteenth avenue, was attempting to show his boy how to use a firecracker when a blast misfired and exploded in his face. He was dazzled by the flash and heard screams as the incident occurred near Jefferson. He was taken home to Dr. Bortes where his face was bandaged for the day after powder was removed from his flesh.

Fire department members face dismissal following a commission’s investigation. Chief Cook prepared formal letters today and plans to deliver them in person at Artington dock. Resignations were offered but not approved per the commission’s ruling.
