Washington reports no general relief and ongoing heat with local storms. New York City endures a torrid spell with 965 deaths to date and 66 more by 10 30 am. Pittsburgh records six deaths and seven serious prostrations as heat intensifies.
Unknown man found drowned under the boulevard by Lake Union near Garfield Street. Coroner notified. body recovered near the beach after unsteady recovery attempts. Identity and cause unclear. witnesses recall a man who had been drinking last Wednesday and alarmed children in the area.
A large hotel in Hot Springs was leveled by a blaze this morning in Richmond. There were no fatalities reported, and authorities investigated the cause as crews cleared debris. The incident disrupted local commerce but left surrounding structures intact.

New York reports the death of Albert L Johnson a millionaire street railway promoter and brother of Cleveland mayor Tom L Johnson. He died suddenly overnight at his Brooklyn suburb home from heart exhaustion. He was known for leading major railway ventures including a proposed trolley line between Philadelphia and New York City.
August Kert of Victoria disappeared after June 19 when he came to a local bank for work. His wife has not seen or heard from him since. He is 6 feet 7 inches tall, heavily built with a brown mustache, wearing a blue coat and vest and light gray trousers. Mrs Kert reported the matter to police this morning.
After months of stockholder litigation, the Guerin faction gains control of the Seattle and San Francisco Railway and Navigation Co. in a noon meeting at Pike Street and Second Avenue. New officers named include W. E. Guerin as president, John B. Dovey as vice president, and R. F. Guerin as secretary.
The rivers and harbors congressional committee arrived by boat from Tacoma and are hosted in Olympia. They will stay overnight and travel by train to Aberdeen, then reach Seattle in the Saturday morning schedule.

The stock exchange will close Friday and Saturday as well as tomorrow due to a holiday and extreme heat. The governing committee announced the extended closure to the public and market participants.

A lightning strike near Cahokia Illinois killed Wim Inghaus er 22 Jno J Graff 1 and Louis Stern percent instantly while they sheltered under a sycamore tree by Dead Creek. Henry Kagin 13 Joe Kegtin 24 and Albert Leidenger 14 were seriously injured. The victims were members of a fishing party.
Brent on July 2 reports the Columbia lost its jib at dawn and the race was declared off. Glasgow July 3 notes Lipton's Shamrocks began trials over the 43 mile Garrockhead to Holy Isle course and back with the old boat winning by one and a half minutes.
Green confronts Con esdine partners in a district meeting and reveals a bill of sale transferring Donardine's gambling rights at the Standard for 4000 in gold. Seattle interests reject the transfer and threaten legal action while removing furniture. Green may dispose his interest as the conflict over Considine’s sale remains unresolved.

Fire swept the Metropolitan Coal Co wharf property in Boston early this morning causing an estimated loss of 500000 dollars. No casualties reported. Fire crews battled the blaze through the morning, with authorities inspecting the site for cause.
