Passengers arriving from England report the liner Akabo engaged four German submarines off an Atlantic port on June 14. The ship evaded torpedoes and gunfire. a periscope was blown away and a submarine later sank after a big explosion. British patrol boats drove off the remaining subs at dawn. The Cunarder Ansonia was torpedoed. all aboard were saved and the vessel towed to port.
