Accident to Steamer Greyhound Near Coleman Pier

At 2 o'clock this afternoon the old steamer ER L Smith broke from Coleman pier and collided with the Greyhound. The Greyhound, with a damaged bow, swung loose and drifted toward the bay amid a 0- mile gale, raising fear of total wreck. Capt M C Jensen led a fire-boat pursuit from the harbor. The Smith then swung back into the slip.

Assault to murder trial in rural fence dispute

Charles Iddings faced a superior court trial for assault with intent to murder Thorng Haggart, a crippled man living near Kent. The incident followed a dispute over a line fence on December 21, with Iddings allegedly breaking a shotgun and injuring Haggart, who was found the next day badly beaten with scalp wounds and broken ribs.

Murdered man found with gunshot wound in Napa street

Joseph Pedro of Napa was found dead on a San Francisco street early this morning with a bullet hole through his kidneys. Police believe he was the victim of footpads. This is the second murder in a week. Pedro was later identified as being shot at by Officer Cranchton. he began to run when told to halt and was ordered to stop.

Robbery at Renton at Drane & Manford’s saloon

At 10 30 last night three masked men entered Drane and Manford’s saloon in Renton and, at the point of a revolver, robbed the cash register of about $74 in silver and checks. They seized two revolvers from behind the bar and fled before an alarm could be raised. Three bystanders were present. Two deputy sheriffs are investigating the case in Renton.

Umatilla Arrives From San Francisco With Freight and Passengers

The Umatilla reached the port this morning carrying 900 tons of freight and 40 passengers after an hour in the stream. Officers say the voyage was pleasant until 8 o'clock when the storm hit. The Queen sailed for San Francisco at 9 o'clock with a large cargo and 40 passengers.
