The first train load of the 346th field artillery arrived in Spokane at 10 this morning for an all day stop en route to Camp Lewis. Spokane bands served pies and sandwiches as the unit, coming in four sections, received a hearty greeting. Their nationwide journey since leaving New York included parades at Niagara Falls and Havre Montana. The unit personnel hail from Washington Idaho Oregon California and Montana.

Authorities pursue a suspected killer after Raymond Ostrom, 34, a Blue Taxi driver, was shot on Jack Peassey road near Auburn. A 14 year old witness Billy Brown described a uniformed man who fled toward Tacoma. detectives from Tacoma Seattle and Auburn investigate. Ostrom, married and previously a shipyard worker, started with Blue Taxi at Christmas.
The supreme war council plans a mission to Poland representing the United States Great Britain France and Italy. The visit aims to discuss President Wilsons proposal for settling the Russian problem as announced today in Paris.
The renowned singer Madame Schumann Heink, in Seattle for a Metropolitan concert, speaks of family bonds across war lines. She reveals four sons in the U S forces and a daughter in Austria, calling for support as she supports war drives and Red Cross efforts.
Vancouver January 22 Japanese fruit growers organize a drive against Orientals after the war ending claim Chinese and Japanese are driving white farmers from districts. Japanese are said to be financed at 3 percent interest by their consul general in Vancouver. Three hundred Japanese have settled in a locality 20 miles from Vancouver in the last three months.
Archibald F B Stevenson told the senate committee that Henry Ford's 1915 peace expedition to "Get the Hogs Out of the Trenches by Christmas" was inspired by German and pacifist interests. The inquiry probes German propaganda and Ford's motive in the venture.

Count Plunkett may travel on British passports to present Ireland’s claim. Hope lodge machinists impose a job-application rule with a $25 fine for workers taking non shipyard work.
In Tacoma on Jan 22 talk of widening the metal workers walkout surfaced. Secretary Barrett of the Metal Trades council said a vote will seek central labor council endorsement for the metal strike, implying possible general action and wage demands by allied unions. The Shipwrights union protested a walkout but did not act further.
Portland January 22 Hy7 Shaw secretary of the Pacific Metal Trades announced there would be no strike in Portland for now as workers remain on the job. Action is deferred pending the outcome of a February conference.
Jan 22 report says Bremerton yard strike does not affect the yards. grievances are handled by the navy wage yearly. Men from other yards on strike have been employed here, keeping operations running under the current dispute.
