In Rome on January 15 Miss Bozzuti a student at the Avezzano Normal College was rescued after the chapel collapsed during an earthquake. She recounts friends praying when the shock began and the altar fell. she survived with injuries while several companions died. Soldiers later freed them from a trapped room.
Ralph Fariss of Bakersfield California was executed at San Quentin at 19 12 am local time for killing Horace Montague on a Southern Pacific train near Los Angeles the night of December 17 1913. While awaiting death Fariss wrote for The Star and Scripps papers detailing his perceived causes of the troubles.
