Snowstorms have cut wires along the mountain division, prompting chief dispatchers to adopt wireless after learning of its use at the division’s eastern end. A private plant in Tacoma relays orders to crews and reports from the Cascades summit. Callophones, by Nathan A. Kurma of San Francisco, are replacing hotel pages in local hotels.

In Seattle two burglars attempted break ins Tuesday night. Charlie Thompson awoke and fired at the intruder, who fled after being struck by gunfire. A second thief's pursuit across blocks ended with a tackle by M. Schwab at 2922 Western Way. Other robberies reported included valuables taken from a trunk at 655 Washington Street and watches from 905 33rd Avenue.
In Olympia on January 16 the progressive faction forced Speaker Taylor to rule that house rules may be changed by a majority vote if a day's notice is given. The move shifts power from the cales committee toward the full body for calendar order decisions, aiming to ease coalition pledges and curb czarlike control over proceedings.
