Train wreck on bridge near Sebb Elensburg injures none

Northern Pacific westbound passenger train derailed after a washout toppled a wooden trestle abutment eight miles east of Sebb Elensburg. Engineer and crew halted the train with the throttle open, all cars except one left the track, passengers escaped with miraculous narrowness. A new stone and steel bridge is under construction, and a concrete pillar partly failed the approach. An Elie doctor arrived at 3:09.

Boy rescues sister from burning Spokane home

Walter Avery, a Golden man aged years, woke to flames in his cot where his one-year-old sister lay. He carried the infant and himself through the fire toward safety as the house burned down. a neighbor later pulled both children from the wreckage. The parents were away at the time.
