London reports Lord Haldane announced Britain has learned the principle of the German 42 centimeter gun. English experts are making mortars equal to German devices. The weapon’s main use is fortress bombardment and potential use against Rhine defenses if the Kaiser leaves France and Belgium.
Fremort light heavyweight Ludwig Anderson known as Jack Newton died in city hospital after a punch at the Austin and Salt boxing show in the Pacific Athletic club gym Friday night. Ike Cohen of San Francisco held on $1000 bail as authorities await coroner’s inquest on possible manslaughter charges.
