Highwayman Goes Down In Shootout Near Bermmit and Marion
A masked highwayman named J Hogue attempted a hold up of Hewes at Bermmit and Marion last night. Hewes fired, striking the footpad in the arm and back, as Hewes was wounded in the abdomen. Patrolman Brown stopped the fleeing assailant at Eighth and Columbia. Hogue admitted the robbery plan and claimed job loss drove him to crime. Hewes was hospitalized, and two roommates of Hogue were arrested.
