A Seattle account describes widespread drunkenness during New Year celebrations with cafes and saloons operating late. Authorities struggle to enforce laws as police appear to assist in clearing crowds while venues stay open until early morning.
Gifford Pinchot and his brother Amos urged President Taft to cancel the Cunningham coal claims in Alaska, valued at twenty five millions, to prevent Morgan Guggenheim from profiting if patent rights were granted.
