Fourth Avenue Regrade Urged by Seattle Property Owners
Fourth avenue property owners unanimously back a radical regrade to widen the street nine feet each side and align with Third avenue regrading. The plan aims to ease damages from the Third avenue work, speed city rail construction, and create a major traffic artery from South Seattle to Ballard via Lake Union, with J A Moore bearing the university grounds cut costs.

Saloons near federal building face limits debate
Regulations to prevent crowding of saloons around the federal building on Third avenue and Union street will be discussed this afternoon by the license committee. Councilman Burnet urged tighter bounds to protect the area from cheap saloons. The committee likely will refrain from radical changes, possibly extending only to include Third avenue between Pike and Union streets and the corner saloon at Third and Union. Mayor Ballinger will deliver his annual message to the city tonight, a 20 page report with department reviews and recommendations. Boston note: Chief Justice Masean of the Massachusetts Supreme Court died of pneumonia at midnight.
