Paris Feb 29 Kaiser Wilhelm watched Verdun battlefield for six hours from a hill four miles north of Fort Douaumont. Rain and snow whipped the crest as French guns and German artillery tore at the fort. The siege saw heavy losses with hand to hand combat on the plains and the French claiming full surround of Douaumont.
Berlin war offices say in the Woevre region the Germans push southeast and east of Verdun, taking 16 575 soldiers 228 officers and 68 cannon and machine guns. German forces pass Dieppe Cort and Blances and capture Heulles Champion and part of a French trench northeast of Villier.
