Boston Feb 27 Governor Foss directed Attorney General Swift to investigate police clubbing of women and blocking children from leaving Lawrence during the textile strike. Swift found the order on his desk at the state house upon arrival.
NANAIMO B C February 27 A car crash fatally injured chauffeur NK Stubbs when it slammed into a telephone pole. In the same wreck Jack Wright was badly hurt while E R Eureka of Seattle Andrew Andrews of Victoria and two Nanaimo girls suffered bruises.

A noted Republican club denounces Gillism and endorses George F. Cotterill. The text urges a clean moral administration and economical city government, warning against a Gill return and pledging to use all powers to help Cotterill’s election. Located signatures include Ib R akil Nelson as president and Carl G. Henson as secretary.
U S Senator Miles Poindexter denounces police and mill owners for harsh actions against Lawrence textile workers. He says the campaign amounts to starvation of women and children and resembles camps in Cuba and abuses against Armenians. He warns against arbitrary arrests and deportations and cites threats to American rights.
A former officer J D Baker, 45, was arrested after a confrontation with Mrs Dave Moll. He allegedly held a gun to her head in a hotel room and threatened to shoot. If no harsher charge arises, he faces a concealed weapons case. Moll recently married and was a Lyric theater cashier. Baker was dismissed January 20 for drawing a gun on a dairyman after a dispute.
SAN ANTONIO Feb 27 American cowboys were killed in a clash with Mexican troops at the Nelson Morris ranch opposite Sierra Blanca. The attackers besieged the ranch seeking to obtain horses saddles and arms. Pascal Brown the ranch manager and several employees had refused to supply the Mexicans.
Willis Brown, guilty of the double murder of his wife Josephine Brown and John Alden near Tacoma, was sentenced by Judge Chapman to 10 to 15 years at Walla Walla penitentiary. He pleaded guilty to second degree murder and showed remorse as details of the crime and confession were revealed.
Seattle adopts personal recognizance bonds with warrants for minor offenses. Citizens sign bonds and await trial, reducing jail risk. Initiated by Justice of the Peace Fred C. Brown, the reform covers Sunday law, auto, saloon, hour law for women, pawnbroking, fortune telling, and related offences.
Water will be shut off on February 28 from 7th Avenue West to 10th Avenue West and Fulton Street to Grand Boulevard, including Magnolia bluff and Ft Lawton, in high service mains from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. This affects West Kay at to W Fulton St and surrounding blocks.
A gale in Goderich Ontario blew in the Wheelwright company factory roof and walls. One man was fatally injured while forty others had narrow escapes. The loss is estimated at $50,000.

In San Francisco on February 27 Mrs Margaret Breiling filed for divorce alleging her ill health was exploited by her husband Theodore who acted as Romeo to a nurse in her sick room. The accusation centers on an affair described in the filing.
