Colonel Nicholas Owings longtime Washington resident and former state senator died of heart disease yesterday while speaking with his wife at their Caledonia house apartments. Born in Indiana in 183, he served in the Union Army and moved to Washington in 1877 as secretary to the territorial government. He held the secretary post for 12 years and later served in the state senate for four years.
