Gillies Found Guilty in Forgery Case at Olympia
In Olympia on Feb 4 John F Gillies a former claim agent in the state industrial insurance department was found guilty of forgery in the first degree by a jury after deliberations since 8:15 last night. The case is the first in a series of charges against Gillies and two alleged confederates Frank W Stone and J W Kearns. Stone testified for the state while Kearns a saloon keeper cashed forged warrants on the estate fund. The looting is alleged to total 15000 to 25000 dollars. Gillies plans to appeal. The jury of seven men and five women heard the long arguments amid heavy snow. The trial will continue with Stone and Kearns to face related charges.
