Ellensburg February 2 Robert Bridges state land commissioner was brought into court to defend action to compel him and other defendants to return state lands alleged to have been fraudulently conveyed Bridges is accused of conspiring to defraud the state.
Chief Meredith reports a find of silverware including a creamer labeled Minnie along with four knives, five forks, six table spoons, a buck horn carving set, sugar bowl, spoon holder, tea pot and four frat knives. The owners are sought to claim the pieces.
An inquest in Franklin concluded that the deaths of miners W. C. Fisher and George Greeger in a Wednesday cave-in were due to an unavoidable accident. Their bodies were interred in Franklin today.
J W Young chief clerk at Skagway White Pass and Yukon says reports of a second blockade at Skagway and Whitehorse are false. He arrived yesterday and states trains left Skagway on Dec 29 on schedule. Young and his family are en route to New Mexico.
Under heavy skies and rain Queen Victoria's funeral procession moved from Victoria station to Paddington with King Edward and royal escorts. The cortege featured 3600 soldiers, foreign attaches, and a glittering display of royal carriages before reaching Windsor where the service followed. An attempted accident at the gun carriage was thwarted as sailors pulled the carriage to safety.
The army reorganization bill was signed at noon authorizing a regular army of 100000 men. It enables president to appoint many officers and promote others, recruiting largely from Philippine volunteers. The move promises clearer prospects for West Point graduates and broader officer careers.

The Foe Line Limited was wrecked at La Font this morning in Milwaukee. Six passengers are dangerously injured and several others are less seriously hurt. All cars were ditched.
A new Pacific Northwest Poultry Association was formed at Germania hall after a successful poultry show. Officers include president to be chosen by the executive committee, vice president C. B. Blapis of Beattie, secretary Charles McAllister Beattie, treasurer A. A. Osborn Seattle, and an executive committee with regional representatives. The show ends tonight, with plans for a larger event next year. The ship Isaac Reed from the Pacific Coast company arrived in San Francisco from Seattle today.
Norman Mills, 72, nephew of a former Pierce County sheriff, was arrested at midnight aboard a China bound steamship in Tacoma. He faces embezzlement charges for stealing about 200 from Treasurer Frank B. Cole’s office where he worked as a clerk. A young woman from the town was arrested as an accessory. They had traveled together for China and Mills had been spending freely on a dissolute lifestyle, including buying a diamond before Christmas.
Advices from Cebu island report a lieutenant and 30 men of the Thirty-fourth volunteers ambushed Tuesday night. Five Americans killed and two missing, several wounded. Detachments pursuing the rebel element.

The couple left the Pioneer building amid praise and plans to settle as Americans.
