George G. Clements, 24, of 1473 W 64th St, was found unconscious near the Golden Gardens in Ballard after a brutal assault. A police car with W. B. McGraw and Detectives Freeman and Scrafford collided with an auto driven by M. H. Schmit of 8053 15th Ave NW at Fifth Ave and Columbia. A. Anderson of Seattle Boiler Works and a Grobschmit passenger were injured. Anderson was thrown through a window, receiving facial cuts. Both cars suffered heavy damage. Anderson was taken to the city hospital.
Fourteen contributors donated by Thursday bringing the Astoria relief fund total to 13143.02 dollars. Gifts include food and necessities and checks should be payable to the Chamber of Commerce relief fund and mailed or delivered to the chamber on the ninth floor of the Arctic building.
National Surety Co. sues real estate dealer Dibble in Superior Court, seeking $1 000 as notary errors in forged signatures. The complaint alleges Dibble forged names on notes and deeds totaling $2 705, including signatures of W Schulz and John M C fas, with further claims by B B Simpson and health inspector Arthur M Dailey about forged conveyances and contracts.
General Manager J. H. O'Neil announced Friday that 1 000 refrigerator cars and a number of box cars will be routed here from Eastern yards next week. Perishable goods including apples and other products will be shipped from this region, with box cars mainly for lumber transport.
Funeral services were held Thursday for Anna and Lilly Engle, sisters shot and killed at their home on West Lost 2550 on Christmas Day.
