The state convention of the Christian party led by Wallace R. Struble of Chicago met in Rock Island Illinois. The gathering aims to reorganize the party on more practical lines and unify purpose and methods among Christian voters. Delegates show strong enthusiasm and sizable attendance.
Adrian Iselin testified before the investigating committee detailing syndicate operations with Mutual Life. John P. Munn outlined United States Life holdings totaling 725 408 book value 870 250 appraised value 26 276 09 net income from property. Munn insured for 25 000 in his own company and 100 000 with Mutual. he received first year commissions.

Governor Cutler, county commissioners and the mayor offer rewards totaling 1200 dollars. Three citizens add 50 dollars and a suit of clothes for a capture dead or alive.
County Surveyor A L Valentine receives congratulations from county commissioners after completing a new suspension bridge over the Ish River at Grotto near Skynomish. Valentine wed in Seattle at midnight after a strenuous final stretch in a snowstorm. The bridge is finished with painting and cable tightening pending once snow ends to open within a month. County Commissioner P J Smith calls it the finest in King County and notes it can be widened and refitted every 12 years for a century of use.
Kasar Van Dran, whose wife was poisoned on August 12 under murder suspicions, killed himself by swallowing cyanide at 10 o'clock last night. His body was found this morning. Van Dran had been in the hospital two months and recovered. Young was tried for assault to commit murder and sentenced to six years, with an appeal.
Water will be shut off tomorrow from 8 30 a m to 4 p m on Franklin and Twelfth Day, north from Filmcrest to Latona bridge.
Shanghai, Dec 29. The boycott by Chinese merchants and officials on American goods is spreading to almost all parts of the empire. Many cities shift to Australian flour at much higher prices, cutting trade to about 20 percent of former levels as American business withdraws.
Governor Meade and Mayor Ballinger head a notable guest list at the Stander hotel for the Seattle Commercial club's installation banquet. Leaders including Judge Burke and Colonel Perkins outlined plans for civic development, regional trade with the Orient, and Alaska's growing role.
Annapolis Md Rec 29 The Coffin court martial deliberations were forwarded to Admiral Sands. Opinions differ on whether Sands as convening authority can review the findings. Sands indicated he would forward the record and his recommendation to Washington. The trial of Midshipman Stephen Decatur Jr began this afternoon on hazing charges.

New York mourns Charles T. Yerkes, who died at 2:16 PM after a prolonged illness. Norfolk VA December 26 The steamer Alabama reports passing the Dewey floating drydock 25 miles south of Solo mon Islands at two miles an hour. At this pace it will take about ten months to reach Manila, her destination.
Coroner Carroll ordered a deputy to Green River Hot Springs for an inquest into the death of Brakeman A. B. Campbell who was killed in a rear end collision in the railway yards. There is doubt over responsibility as Campbell may have been on rear duty in the caboose when the accident occurred. the verdict will be sought this afternoon.
Councilman Conway’s double assessment plan for the Jackson regrade is withdrawn. Corporation Counsel Calhoun will frame an ordinance taxing only properties abutting Jackson Street while the city covers all other improvements from the general fund. District extends to Lake Washington. nonabutting owners protest double assessment and seek $6 front foot.
The local marine exchange reports a four masted schooner passed Port Crescent early this morning with her jib boom worried away. The vessel had evidently suffered a hard time off the cape, though the name could not be distinguished.
Captain Roald Amundsen the polar explorer cannot visit Seattle. A telegram from G Lund of the Washington Posten on behalf of local Norwegians invited him, and a reply dated December 11 from Eagle City thanked them but said he remains where he is awaiting a letter home.
A notorious ship mascot named Portland a stowaway from the wrecked steamer Portland travels from Juneau to Seward to the city where Clark Davis Alaska Petroleum & Coal manager kept the cat aboard the Alki. Sailors blamed the hoodoo for the wreck but Davis persuaded them to spare the cat which now roams his office tearing paper walking over keys and causing mischief.
Theo dore Scharrer a 35 year old hop dealer of Stuttgart Germany announces plans to wed Wilhelmina Busch daughter of Adolphus Busch at Busch's home on New Year’s Day. The couple earlier registered as man and wife in Belleville Illinois and clarified the event as Scharrer’s joke and a quiet wedding.
W Douglass a former husband of Flora Mann denies all accusations by Mann and Mrs Emma Russel about elopement to Vancouver and a shooting claim. He says Mann fabricated the story about $6000 squandered and notes a court records dispute over remarriage and separation timing.
Judge Frater presided a strenuous juvenile court session hearing eleven cases. Cannial Empens J Logan and C Paxman were committed to the Industrial school while F Bender was committed but suspended for good behavior. Wu Banke and W Atterbury were discharged. Arthur Vaughn admitted cursing his mother and the judge warned that another offense would send him to reform school. Separate notices announced bids for 28 horses for the Eighth Battery US Army with bids opening January 3 at the local quartermaster.
