Al Kenworthy and his five year old son Glenn perished in a Friday morning fire and blast at their one story Bend Roxbury home between Rainier Beach. Neighbors heard the explosion and firemen recovered the bodies from the ruins as Mrs Kenworthy and a daughter were away downtown earlier. Kenworthy had worked at a flour mill and was selling Christmas holly in recent days.

More than 125 miners at the Eagle mine near Des Moines went on strike claiming pay raised 14 percent per the Indianapolis settlement. Mine officials cited a misunderstanding and expected union leaders to order a return to work. J C Lewis, president of the state miners' organization, said steps to settle the strike would be taken immediately.
General John J. Pershing will visit Seattle from January 19 for three days including Camp Lewis and Puget Sound posts. Christmas night in Seattle ends with Thomas Shearn, a 35 year old logger, captured after a hotel window escape and shotgun fire at a restaurant. Detectives D J McLennan and James Doon trail him after he allegedly held up Morey Stationery and shot two clerks.
A guest in Burke hotel room steals watch and $99 after sharing a bed. A. Pisco of steamer Governor crew reports to Firetave Police and requests detectives. Police clerk notes difficulty locating suspect as night advances and remarks on alarm clock failures and wary high society.
Tony Dingello landlord and Mike Tocanto worker in the Youngstown steel plant were bound over for grand jury consideration on charges of possessing apparatus to make liquor. They claimed the basement still belonged to former tenants and denied knowledge of it. Bail was set at 6500 dollars. The hearing occurred before U S Commissioner R W McClelland.
In Los Angeles on December 26, testimony focused on whether United States Senator Harry S. New of Indiana is the defendant Harry New’s father. Martha Scudder and attorney Charles G. Williams testified about birth circumstances and lifelong doubts, with Williams recounting a pivotal meeting between New and the boy.
Sheriff Stringer was notified by long distance call at 9 a m. that bandits blew a safe in Buckley near Tacoma early Friday. They held the town bay and escaped with 250 dollars. They started for Tacoma but are believed to have changed course and may have driven toward Seattle.
Workers at Coast Steel Works initiated efforts to boost local manufacturing, asking the Chamber of Commerce bureau to oversee operations. Plant activities have increased and workers seek to retain expanded production with local Seattle firms.
Preliminary hearing on charges against Carl Bohnert for possession of a mask for distillation was scheduled by Commissioner R. W. McClelland for Saturday at 2 p m. Bail for Bohnert posted by bondsmen at 500 dollars for Friday morning.
