In York a demolition at 1 15 pm caused an armory building to collapse burying fourteen workmen. Two killed outright, three dying, seven seriously hurt and two injured. Rescue crews worked frantically to reach the victims as the ruins were cleared.
Maggie Sanford aged 14 from Ocosta and Han Hayes were arrested on Beattie for alleged criminal assault after fleeing Tacoma. Hayes, an electrician, claimed a purely friendly relation and planned marriage. Maggie professed innocence, saying they planned to wed today despite her youth. Both were held for witness testimony and to appear.
Chicago records show a grand jury indicted 10 union carmen on assault and riot counts tied to disturbances during the recent streetcar strike.
A youth named Joe Allison, half dressed with one shoe, shouted at passersby on Third avenue and begged Patrolman Stepler to remove women he claimed were coming to take him to a castle. He fled with the officer toward the police station while imagining maidens approaching.

ESCAPED PORTLAND, Dec. 23. W. Parker, son of a Deer Lodge, Montana mining man, escaped from Detective Day at Umatilla on an outgoing train. He faced charges for four worthless checks in Portland and similar actions across the Northwest in November. His father has partly settled claims and is trying to settle the balance. the elder Parker is said to have supplied a large sum of money prior to the matter leaving Deer Lodge.
Mrs Forsyth aged 110, a longtime Ellensburg resident, died at Yakima hospital. Born in Scotland she spent years working in coal mines. Her son Robert resides in Roslyn.
Havana December 23 The effort to place railroad steel sugar and electric machinery on free duty failed as the Cuban congress voted down the proposal.
A special grand jury returns 19 indictments against ex city officials amid bribery charges. The action follows five weeks of sessions and targets officials accused of soliciting payments. Local names include George Rane sch and Charles Brown linked to the probe.

State shingle makers plan a convention in the city next Wednesday to finalize a plan to keep shingle prices high without violating anti trust law. A new Interstate Red Cedar Shingle Company aims to control about 95 percent of output and pay manufacturers at least 10 percent more than current market rates. Contracts run one year, with renewal based on effectiveness and avoidance of ruinous competition. The venture will supplant the Washington Red Cedar Shingle Association and target about 36 000 carloads annually, with anticipated purchases around 3 000 cars. Mrs. Wm. L. Rhodes of 108 Fifteenth avenue reports to police a strange man who each evening stands on the doorstep and shouts marriage proposals to her servant girl. The maid fears him and the couple seek action to compel the man to explain his methods.
