Seattle Cataract Company Seeks Franchise Changes
The Seattle Cataract Company plans to petition the city council next week to modify three franchise clauses. President Charles H. Baker cites red tape on pole changes, price restrictions that curb competition, and a 2,000 foot main-line rule as key issues. He argues current terms protect rivals and hinder expansion. A new distribution station tour shows a 300,000 volt input and a complex transformer network converting to 220 volts for the building. The Cataract plant lighting south Seattle costs about $15,000 annually at current rates. In a separate note, John H. Condon bought W. Bennett’s Pike Street congress saloon today for $6,000.
