A young woman about 20 was found dead in an uncovered excavation at Grant Avenue and Sutter Street after apparently falling from the street level. Police speculate a fall caused a fractured skull but no identifying details were recovered from her clothing.
Mrs Winnie Norris a Seattle pioneer dies at her home 1642 Melrose Ave age 79 with a son James W Norris and Mrs Francie McMoellen of Hillman City. Funeral services will be held from Butterworth & Son chapel tomorrow afternoon.

New York December 12 United States deputy marshal William B Masterson and editors W B Lewie and Henry N Carey of the New York Morning Telegraph were arrested yesterday charged with criminal contempt of court for circulating fake and grossly inaccurate reports of the Oullette trial.
The body of Emile Lobe arrived this morning from Kansas City Missouri and was taken in charge by Bon Ney Watson. The funeral service will be held at 11 o clock tomorrow morning from the residence at 1812 Sixteenth Avenue. The body will be cremated.
Hen Elliott Snipes aged 71 died at his home from pneumonia. The body will be shipped to Dallas Oregon tomorrow for interment. He was a North Carolina native and leaves a wife and several children.
George Diamond a laborer was arrested yesterday for ex pectorating in a Green Lake street car making him the fourth arrest for the offense in the area.
In a morning crackdown police in plain clothes monitored Roman Catholic services across churches. Sixty nine clergymen were summoned and charged with holding services without government licenses while laymen sought church authorizations. George Diamond was fined $1 for violating Chief Wappenstein’s order against street car floor spitting, and James Beatty forfeited his ball rather than appear in court for the same offense.
Game Warden Rief reports a letter from T. B. Palmer urging preservation supporters in Washington to back the Olympic game refuge bill already passed by the House. A streetcar collision at the foot of Queen Anne hill near East Queen Anne injures two motormen and several passengers. Motorman Bowers of car 118 and Conductor Nash of the eastbound car 118 were hurt, with passengers briefly endangered as both vehicles collided at high speed. Inspectors and aid crews responded. one woman fainted and was revived.
In San Francisco on Geary Street Ed Mell a stableman and Tokuchika a Japanese driver quarreled drawing bystanders into a clash. Police dispersed the mob and Mell was arrested. A Japanese bystander proclaimed San would be controlled by the Japanese and an American responded the other way before order was restored.
In Pittsburg on December 13 a judge denied a new trial to Coachman Hooe, convict ed of perjury regarding Mrs Mary Hartie. He received six years in prison and a $50 fine. In New York, 52 police with District Attorney Jerome raided a gambling house on Tenth Street, arresting 145 men as doors were battered open.
Captain Nile Emanuel Hiedegaul formerly master of the PC Adler was found dead in a Seattle lodge house at 610 Firetav south. The death is believed due to heart disease. He joined the Masters and Pilots' association Tuesday night and had arrived in Seattle a few weeks ago planning to stay this winter and sail north next spring. A brother in San Francisco is the only known relative in this country.
Members will meet tonight to conduct annual church business and elect officers as a corporation, followed by an ecclesiastical meeting to elect deacons and other offices. Department reports will be heard at the later meeting on January 3.
