Desperate Battle With Female Lynx Ends in Capture
Mermann Smith of Seattle, after a severe laceration ordeal, killed a large female lynx and captured her two cubs near Chena while prospecting. He returned to Seattle with the cubs and the mother’s hide, kept in a cage at the Nebraska saloon. The cubs are about three days old, now around 14 inches tall, and the old lynx stood roughly 30 inches high. Smith treated his wounds with whisky and secured the pair for display and study.
