George Conse aged 24, driver for hire, narrowly survived when his vehicle dived over an embankment at Bothell at 5 30 a m Wednesday. He was pinned under the wreck for about 30 minutes before a passerby freed him. he sustained severe chest hip and arm injuries and was hospitalized. Conse had just discharged passengers for Everett and was returning to Seattle when brake failure on the turn caused the crash.
Northwestern railroad passenger train No. 610 derailed near Waukesha Wisconsin. One can was killed and hundreds of passengers were imperiled as the engineer was pinned beneath the engine.
A powerful thunderstorm lit Seattle with heavy lightning beginning about 4:25 am and lasting around an hour. Three persons were beaten to death with an iron bar at the Burns home in Canton Ohio. Victims include Mr and Mrs Frank Burns and Mrs Mary Nola. Frank Armstrong, who was with Mrs Nola, survived serious injuries. Police pursue Frank Nola, 25, husband of Mary Nola.
Marion Illinois August 30 secrecy surrounded a special grand jury probing the Herrin massacre. Witnesses were expected to name mob leaders behind the death march of 19 non union miners while another witness faced contempt for refusing to answer.
In Chicago on August 30 two men were killed and three wounded when bootleg pirates ambushed three beer trucks in a dark grove on the city’s outskirts. One wounded man likely died from injuries. Police investigations begin.
James M. Cox in London urged aiding central Europe, saying the aim should be a physician not an undertaker. He cited reassurance from Washington that the administration is involved in European economic affairs and that Herbert Hoover will not be sent there. Eleven year old Glen Dean, son of Mr and Mrs C V Dean, was recovering at home after his bicycle was hit by an auto driven by W F McLeod at East Lake and Fuhrman Ave. Glen, riding with Ford Baxter on the crossbar, struck the front wheel and hit his head causing a scalp wound. McLeod rushed them to Dr Hemingway for treatment.

Portland, Aug 80. Coroner's jury recommended Nick Doltes be bound over to the grand jury on a first degree murder charge for shooting George Grammatti as he entered the room at the Everett hotel. Evidence showed no provocation for the fatal shot.
