Equalize Vote With Britain Equalize Vote With Britain
A Senate foreign relations committee quarrel over treaty reservations is likely as they take up the issue next week. The panel amended the peace treaty to grant the United States as many votes in the League of Nations assembly as the British Empire, reversing the current balance. Republican factions clash while Democrats resist expanding voting power. The committee aims to report the treaty by midweek with Fall’s labor clause removal as the remaining point. A committee plan to campaign against President Wilson was discussed, with Lodge seeking publicity by staying in Washington. An Irish independence plea was heard today, while Senator Owen read a response to Lodge’s August 12 remarks.
