The Star begins publishing Gouverneur Morris The Goddess in serial form on Thursday. A chapter a day will run for five weeks and cost 30 cents for five weeks, while the full novel would cost 1.50 at a bookstore. Readers will also see the Goddess on the Alhambra screen in five weekly installments.

Fred L. Boalt reports the Seattle Sun has suspended publication after a dire market struggle. The Sun’s editors and workers defended the paper’s spirit, noting personnel loyalties and a long fight, as creditors and a new Seattle Co. Inc. took over the property and resumed printing on April 26 with a slim treasury.
The Puget Sound Trac Light Power Co has not filed a copy of its franchise request with Pierce County or the city. Assistant Corporation Counsel says the city should read and study the franchise before commissioners act. No copy filed by noon Monday. company says user provision exists but differs from last year’s franchise.
Inspectors led by United States Steamboat Commissioner B. Whitney will delay the investigation into the ramming of the steamship Admiral Watson by the freighter Paraiso at Bell street dock. One longshoreman died, the Paraiso’s pilot faces possible license discipline, and damage to the Watson is estimated at 26 000 to 50 000 dollars as wrecking work by Santa Cruz begins. The Watson sank after the collision amid fog and smoke, Captain Jensen steered the vessel toward shallower water.
At a Seattle Methodist preachers meeting 32 ministers voted unanimously to urge the city council to open an inquiry into charges published by a Seattle daily against Police Chief Lang. They call for a public finding on whether the charges are true or false and to protect the city's moral welfare.
Harry lost 85 dollars at a Maynard and Dearborn gambling joint and was beaten out of 25 more by Police Judge MacMahon. Police nabbed Elijah Djadahaff and George Zelick, alleged operators, with Harry held as a witness. MacMahon declared all parties guilty and fined them.
Thomas 8 8 Bassen files for divorce from Frances Bassen alleging she would not caress or walk with him, danced with men he disapproved of, and left him after a 1910 marriage. He says he earned $1,000, gave her half, she bought a $150 diamond ring and moved from Skagit County to run a lodging house.
In a statement responding to The Star charges Lang says the paper and gamblers are in a plot to bring him down. A Star reporter visited several gambling dens Saturday night but kept his identity secret. Gamblers defend Lang as a good chief despite the paper’s coverage.
The Seattle City Council introduces a resolution to probe Chief Louis M. Lang over gambling concerns and conduct unbecoming an officer. Hearings begin September 7 at 2 p.m. in the council chambers with copies sent to the chief, mayor, and corporation counsel.
The Success, an aged prison hulk described in stark terms, arrived from Portland and moors at the foot of Yester Way. Capt. D. J. Smith commands the vessel which dates to 1790 and will be open for public viewing from Wednesday noon for about a week. Mayor Gill and officials will tour the ship Wednesday forenoon.
Former Seattle City Engineer R. H. Thomson filed a new libel suit against the Seattle Times for 50 000 dollars over an August 31 1912 editorial headlined How Did City Happen to Lose 300 000 He claims the piece indirectly charged him with misplacing city funds The Times recently faced a 15 000 damage judgment in a related case and has appealed to the state supreme court
