O Brien Hanged for Triplet Murders on City of Seattle
George O Brien was hanged at 2 a m on Friday on the steamer City of Seattle for the December 18 killings of Relfe Clayson and Olson on the Minto Mootehikee trail. He proclaimed innocence to the end, mocked the execution, and declared enemies would suffer. The voyage from Skagway to Seattle included two sighted boats the Dolphin and the Humboldt. A cargo of whale oil and gold worth about 10,000 lay with the purser and passengers. The steamer carried 29 passengers and was met by a light, foggy weather on the return trip.
