Mrs ora R V Chapman of Sumner has walked Seattle streets since August 11 looking for her 16 year old son Arthur D Chapman who left Sumner August 8 to work in Seattle shipyards. A Sumner girl saw him selling papers near the post office on August 17. Arthur is fair with blue eyes, 5 feet 4 inches, 120 pounds. Mother's phone Ballard 2795.
Reports from Chihuahua City say 100 passengers on a train were killed and 65 injured after Villista bandits tore up rails near Tehuelmanes Mexico causing a plunge down a canyon. Carranguista guards were clubbed. many women and children were burned in coaches.
Pravda reports 40,000 peasants join 40,000 strong resistance near Skvira against German and Ukrainian forces. The Ukraine railway strike continues as workers desert factories once German troops withdraw, with peasants organizing further opposition.
London reports Kermit Roosevelt awarded the Military Cross for his service with the British army in Mesopotamia. He served as a major in the motor transport unit and recently transferred to the American army with a captain’s commission.
Washington reports a fresh government effort to find ships to sustain a 4,000,000 man-power program by June. Despite earlier picks, officials say more merchant vessels can be drawn into service and Allied fleets will consolidate.
