Five thousand Seattle residents filled Dreamland pavilion to denounce Judge Hanford as a drunkard and judicial anarchist. Speakers including Erickson Bryan Horner and Fawcett attacked federal judges and injunctions, while an effigy of Hanford was hanged on a pole outside the venue. The rally ended with Labor leader Paul Mohr and a marching crowd.
Warrants charging conspiracy to obstruct justice issued against nine leaders of the drive to impeach Federal Judge C. H. Hanford. Includes former Tacoma Mayor Fawcett Leroy Sanders Perry B H Canfield Councilman Erickson Hugo Kelley Paul Mohr Will Atkinson Thomas R. Horner. Bail set at 5000. Atkinson first arrested. Kelley surrendered without bail.
Deputy Sheriff Hugo Kelley arrested W R Crawford general manager of the Seattle Renton and Southern road on Thursday. Crawford posted 100 cash bail and faced charges under the public utilities law for overcharging fares on street cars within the city limits. Wallace fled but later surrendered posting 500 bail. Crawford faces possible further arrests for additional violations.
A city mass meeting at Dreamland, organized by The Star, drew an unprecedented Seattle turnout on two days notice. Reporters hailed the gathering as a historic public show of support for a cause and principle, with crowds filling the venue and spilling into the street.
Former Tacoma mayor Fawcett drew an ovation in Seattle recounting his 10 year old Hanford injunction case. He described ordering removal of five miles of poles and wires to clear streets, despite a $250 000 legal battle, saying it cost him 2.50 to win. Meanwhile five hundred New England club members sailed to Edmonds for their annual outing aboard the Telegraph for a Rhode Island bake.

Frank H. Wortham alias J L Wortham and J A Matthews, alleged forger, captured in Tacoma lodging house after deceitful two day spree netting about $17,250. Pinkerton Detectives Ahern and Robinson and City Detectives Adams and Peterson led the arrest. Wortham faced Seattle police with a suitcase of currency and prints for check manipulation. He had circulated in Cincinnati Dallas New Orleans Oklahoma Kansas City and is linked to more than $100,000 in six months.
At Elgin Illinois on August 26 a section of a temporary western stand collapsed during the National Trophy race. About 500 spectators were buried in debris and more than 300 injured as panic sent crowds onto the track. Soldiers and deputies controlled the melee while cars continued. Ambulances ferried the wounded to hospitals.
Eleven people perished when the steamer Alice wrecked on Viva Neuva reef off Nicaragua while bound for Bluefields. Officials of Union Fruit Company believed to be aboard. lifeboats reached shore except one, which carried survivors. In Alaska, Interior Secretary Fisher sprained an ankle while inspecting coal claims. a storm prevented reaching a revenue cutter.
The editor of the Bee and Safe Watertower was seen taking a train to the city this morning and officials fear no further news will appear in the paper today due to the absence of staff.
A Seattle fur dealer notes natural furs will hit wallets harder this fall than last year with pony coats costing about 45 dollars from 50. Russian pony coats range 50 to 200 dollars or more, depending on trim. Many so called pony skins are calf skins and most popular priced furs are imitations made from Belgian hares and cats. Blue furs will be fashionable while trends swing toward natural colors.
Three thousand signatures in two days push district of Western Washington to demand congressional action. The Star prints the petition urging U S Judge C H Hanford’s impeachment for unfitness and misconduct, asking the House to appoint a committee to investigate his conduct and ten years of rulings.
