Tacoma dispatch reports Frederick H. De Lage, an escaped federal prisoner from McNeil Island, believed drowned in Puget Sound while fleeing from Sheriff Starwich’s bloodhounds. The crew of the Sampalo Correia, a giant sea plane, will be landed at Guantanamo Bay Cuba today by the U S 8 Denver after the craft collapsed and fell into the ocean between Cuba and Haiti while attempting a New York to Rio de Janeiro flight. All crew members were rescued by the Denver following a bad landing that smashed the airplane.
Sigurd J. Hansen faced insanity charges after a rapid sequence of events: meeting a girl on Sunday, marrying Monday, and alleged intoxication. Judges and doctors in Judge King Dykeman's court heard testimony from D A Nicholson and James F E Stevens. Hansen, a seaman, was found mentally OK on Wednesday after evidence linked his behavior to lifelong drinking. The insanity complaint was sworn by his brother in law O H Halvorsen.
Carl Bergstrom a 25 year old postal employee was arrested in Tacoma on a charge of rifling the mails. He was to have a hearing before U S Commissioner Thomas W Hammond. Three decoy letters containing money were found in his locker and police say the arrest may help account for several sums missing from the mails. Bergstrom had worked for the postal service about 20 months.
Veterans of Foreign Wars members press charges after police closed the Leavitt Brown and Huggins carnival highlights during the August VFW convention in Seattle. The carnival firm seeks 15000 in damages for reputational and profit losses plus expenses for relocating from Gresham to Seattle.
Twenty four Seattle motorists were charged with speeding in a 24 hour period ending at noon Wednesday. Four were arrested for driving while intoxicated. J Landers, a steeplejack, was released on bail after a crash with J W Anderson at Fremont Avenue and 4th Street. Anderson was sentenced to 10 days in jail and a $100 fine for DUI.
Secretary of War Weeks said in Washington that the government might take over the railroads if an extreme emergency occurs to prevent a transportation breakdown amid ongoing rail strike talks between executives and union leaders. He cited potential New York negotiations as not promising a settlement.
Tacoma reports the death of four year old Myrna Reman after she fell into a tub of hot water in her mother's kitchen following a drink. The accident occurred in the Reman home and ended after hours of agony.

President Harding nominated George R. Marvell and Henry J. Ziegemeier for rear admiral in the U.S. Navy. Both captains are in the Pacific. Marvell commands the Arizona and will head the Manila naval district while Ziegemeier leads the California and will serve as director of naval communications in Washington.
Los Angeles reports Estel Emmons known as the bandit queen will not face extradition today. William D. Stephens to sign papers for extradition to Eugene Oregon, as Justice Hanby postpones the hearing until tomorrow. Attorneys say they will seek release due to purported lack of evidence.
