The Star denounces Chief Lang of Seattle for repeated private car use and clubbing with cabaret crowds, urging Mayor Gill to remove him. Lang seeks the job for power and pay, remaining despite past scrapes and calls for resignation, while the mayor’s loyalty to appointees endangers public decency and protection.
In a statement Lang denies plans for further gambling in the city and vows to shield wives and mothers from gamblers. The Star cites Lang’s yearlong awareness of the gambling situation and questions why he failed to protect Harry Dunaway’s wife and child. A witness describes gambling operations at 412 Main Street with a front door guard and rear entrance to a gambling room. He criticizes police policy that allows Chinese patrons to gamble among themselves while barring interactions with Americans.
The Star rebukes Chief for delaying action on gambling exposed in The Green Room. It says investigators warned the police earlier and accused the chief of inaction, preferring Prosecutor Lundin’s handling over the chief’s last minute promises to arrest suspects.

He says if charges are true the chief is unfit to lead the department and should be acquitted or fired promptly. Lundy discussed drafting a resolution with Corporation Counsel Bradford Monday. Refugees report three American troopers killed and many Mexicans fallen. Carranzista troops mass at Zorilio across the line, threatening San Rafael valley. Women fled the valley by auto.
The Japanese steamer Panama Maru ran aground in fog off Three Tree Point and remained beached Monday afternoon. Osaka Shosen Kaisha officials planned to refloat at the next high tide, estimating 65 o'clock, and expected no hull damage due to mud. A second brief notes Mrs Ida Ball Quarren and affinity, 8. P. Christy facing the electric chair in North Carolina next month.
